What follows here are the letters sent back and forth between myself and theyellowflowerspar. I am posting them here as a tutorial in case they may be of help to anyone else!
Hello :)
I saw your gallery (wonderful by the way) and I noticed that your photographs have all that vintage and indie look..
I would like to ask you how you do that.. it's really beautiful and I really don't know how to do that.. so it would be great if you could answer me..
Thank you,
Olívia *
Hello Olivia! how nice of you to ask!
well if you have adobe photoshop that is a big help!
although i'm still learning how to use it, i can give you some pointers!
First, change the colours and hue of your photos by adjusting the saturation and colours, increasing reds/yellows or blues and greens.
then either take photos of old papers, canvas, cement floors, etc or get them on deviantart by typing in the keywords
TEXTURES then words like VINTAGE
OLD
PAPER
SCRATCHES
etc
Then layer those on top of your photo (use free transform to position them) and re-adjust the gamma, saturation, etc. once they are loaded in place.
There are also available some ' photo actions' on deviantart you can use. once you download them (in the folder of your choice) you click the little arrow on Actions and go to load action and click on the different things like > to set them in motion. They will colour the photo for you, and then you can watch each step to learn to do this yourself.
Do you understand any of this?
you can also get brushes - grunge brushes are great! you apply them over the top for that scruffy look!
Do you need any more help? please ask!

Hi Annie :D
A huge thank you for all this help! I certainly understood almost everything.. I downloaded the textures and I do have photoshop but I don't know how to layer them on and how to use free transform to position them.. I have adobe photoshop CS2.
and how can I get those "photo actions"?
A huge thank you once again. you really helped me a lot :D
Olívia *
well first of all photoshop actions can be found by searching for them
photoshop action
retro
vintage
would be some cool key words
how to layer:
first open both files in your photoshop, the one you want layered on top make smaller, then on the right where it says background layer drag that on top of the second photo that should create a layer for the photo you actually want as the background.
Then go to Edit >Free Transform. adjust where you want it and click enter.
Go to the layer and right click on the layer for 'blending options' then adjust it the way you want!!!!
Now go forth and deviate!!!
let me know how you get on!
Love Annie xxx
Wow Annie it really helped me!
I found some photoshop actions and some textures and I even photographed some textures myself!
Thanks once again for helping me :D I understood everything about the layers and so on :D
I'll try to work on it and then I'll submite on my deviantart :)
Lots Of Love,

And secrets would be mine
I'd put you on a movie reel
And that would be just fine.
