Artist's CommentsStrangers In Poloroids Sham Rocks Bernaccia's Newcastle Upon Tyne Friday 1st of February 2008 Sadly this band and Sham Rocks no longer exist as they once were. Bernaccia's also no longer puts on gigs either. It was a dark and dingy place with one chandelier that was turned down to nearly total darkness as the only stage lighting. The band would be stood at the door, so everyone coming in or out would pass between the band and the crowd. Behind the band was a huge wall of windows, and it was very common for people to press their faces up to the glass during gigs. Sham Rocks were gigs being put on by the publication i shot for called Sham! sadly that has also been put out of business, although it has been reformed as Sing Shout Music. About Strangers in Polaroids [RIP 2006 - 2008] Like most bands, they profess to a wide range of sounds and influences yet for Strangers in Polaroids, its a justifiable statement. Sweeping, graceful rock segues into thunderous drums and riffs, locking into jazzy, tribal grooves before venturing into effects laden progressive and post-rock territories.. At the heart of these melting pot soundscapes are evocative melodies and harmonies, with lyrics which tackle jealous lovers, murderous spouses, administration and the living dead. Formed in Newcastle upon Tyne at the tail end of 2006, they played an impressive string of debut gigs, which included supporting Rival Schools legend Walter Schreifels in Bristol, an Oxford homecoming gig for singer Matt, and their own Waiting for Winter gig promotions. The band then stormed their London live debut and supported the likes of Amusement Parks on Fire, Rose Kemp, Grammatics, This Et Al and Dive Dive. At the beginning of 2008 they launched their debut EP and followed it with a second featuring Life in a Box and Black and White - as well as a live acoustic session for NE1FM. Strangers in Polaroids played their final gig at The End on September 21st 2008. A new project has since been in the works comprising of 3 members to be unveiled shortly... If you'd like to see this band, they'll be appearing at The End this Monday in Newcastle on 2 February 2009. FEATURED!! HERE by |

I wish i was a Warhol silkscreen
Hanging on the wall
Or Little Joe, or maybe Lou
I'd love to be them all.
Then all New York City's broken hearts
And secrets would be mine
I'd put you on a movie reel
And that would be just fine.
